Since mid-2007 there have been significant layoffs in the New York metropolitan area. Unfortunately, the pace of layoffs for the foreseeable future will probably accelerate, especially in financial services, media, real estate, and the law. Is the job market hopeless? How can people manage their careers during difficult times? How can they exploit opportunities during this recession? How can they not only keep their jobs, but also advance their careers despite reductions in force and downsizing? How can you differentiate yourself from everyone else during a downturn?

Join Duke alumni on Saturday, November 1, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. for DCNY’s exclusive career management workshop "Advancing Your Career During Difficult Times" led by Paul Bernard, MA’75, an executive coach and career management consultant. The above questions will be answered in this 4-hour workshop that will address topics including: understanding new job performance standards during an economic downturn, Expectation Management 101, the importance of internal networking (“Schmoozing 101”), building alliances and finding and keeping sponsors and protectors, seizing opportunities and exploiting possibilities during a serious recession, skills needed to succeed in difficult times, and much more.
